Suffolk New College was the venue, Emma Crowhurst the organiser, BBC Radio Suffolk’s Leslie Dolphin the commentator and our chef Chris Lee the judge, in the finals of The Suffolk Young Cooks competition which gave teens, aged 13 to 17, the chance to show off their cookery skills with their dishes made from a list of locally-sourced ingredients.
The final round saw 17-year-old Panipak Koonnwarote (Royal Hospital School) and 14-year-old Haverhill students (Samuel Ward Academy) Holly Sentence and Joel Ridgeway, battle it out in the kitchens but it was Joel with his recipe for a deconstructed pork and chilli burger dish who emerged the winner.
“It was simply amazing,” says Chris. “Truly inspirational. All three finalists did Suffolk proud and I really enjoyed being part of the competition, which promises to be an annual event.”
