The Great British Pub Awards, organised annually by the Publican’s Morning Advertiser, have announced the regional winners for 2014 and we are amongst those celebrating as The Packhorse Inn is named “Best Food Pub” for the East Anglia & East Midlands region.
Philip Turner is thrilled with this early recognition for the inn which, after all, has only been opened for less than ten months:
“As we get ready to open our second pub in the Chestnut Inns family -the Rupert Brooke in Grantchester – it has given the team a huge confidence boost. Full credit must go to Chef Chris Lee for his great talent but also his commitment to use local produce and his passion for always trying something new.”
Chris Lee, who manages the Suffolk village inn with his wife Hayley is no stranger to winning awards but he too sees this accolade as a major milestone:
“This is our first major award at the Packhorse Inn and it does feel good to know that ‘my food’ is recognised as amongst the best food to be had in pubs in the region. The award is down to the great team, not just the kitchen, here in Moulton.”
We now have to wait until the final award ceremony on the 11th September to see if we can also take the national award for the category or even the ultimate Pub of the Year award selected from the 17 category finalists.
