CHESTNUT NURTURING YOUNG CHEFS

Supporting local people and young talent is a huge passion of ours. It's important that we provide a fun and welcoming work environment as well as sharing our knowledge and expertise with the wider community. Sharing is caring as they say!

Recently our Head Chef at The Northgate, Greig Young, returned to work with the students at West Suffolk College in the beautiful Suffolk town of Bury St. Edmunds. Offering these mentoring sessions and a taste of what real working conditions can be like, Greig knows how valuable the experience is for these chefs-in-training, giving them an insight into life as a chef in a busy kitchen.

'It's a natural way for these young adults to come from college to kitchen.' - Greig Young

For many years West Suffolk has been integral in training aspiring chefs in East Anglia and as a college offers a fantastic array of courses, which are on offer to all ages. Many of these students have since worked at Chestnut pubs after passing their courses, in fact you will find a fair few talented graduates in the Northgate kitchen. A real full circle moment.
