The Giving Tree Charity

Cultivating Community & Connection across The East of England

At Chestnut our purpose extends far beyond hospitality - it’s about community, connection, and creating spaces where people belong.

The Giving Tree, launched as a Community Interest Company in 2020 and officially registered as a charity in January 2025, now underpins our mission to support communities across the East of England.

Over the last five years, we have proudly raised over £320,000 to support local charities across Cambridgeshire, Essex, Suffolk, and Norfolk, with every penny going back into the communities we serve.

Our Focus

  • Supporting the vulnerable, tackling food poverty and families experiencing hardship and homelessness

  • Strengthening connectivity, fostering strong, local relationships across our four counties

Highlights from Recent Campaigns & Events

Cambridge Half Marathon (March 2025)

Dedicated Giving Tree volunteers took to the streets of Cambridge to raise funds for Something To Look Forward To, a charity offering gifts and experiences to those coping with cancer and cancer-related poverty. Together they raised over £14,000, enabling expanded support for those impacted by cancer.

Cycle Safari (April 2025)

Our signature fundraiser returned with gusto: four days, ten food hub visits, and a gruelling 520 km route. Businesses and community rallied with over £27,000 raised, All funds were directed to essential food facilities across Norfolk, Suffolk, Cambridgeshire, and Essex.

Norfolk Superhero Quadrathlon (June 2025)

As a proud sponsor of the bar for the third consecutive year, our volunteers served pints to over 200 determined Superheroes and their families. A portion of the overall £200,000 total - £17,000 - was raised for Norfolk charities, thanks to a collective effort.

Pier‑to‑Pier Norfolk Walk (June 2025)

Partnering with East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH), The Giving Tree supported the 32‑mile trek from Cromer Pier to Great Yarmouth Pier. Despite adverse weather, walkers raised £40,000+ for EACH, with volunteers, finisher drinks and Chestnut‑sponsored goodie bags.

Looking Ahead: 2025 & Beyond

With new official charity status as of early 2025, The Giving Tree is working to deepen its impact across the region. Our focus continues on:

  • Expanding our charity fundraising events

  • Awarding quarterly grants to local grassroots organisations tackling food poverty, homelessness, and community wellbeing.

“Becoming an official charity allows us to deepen our impact and continue to support the incredible organisations that make a difference in our communities.”

Philip Turner, Founder of Chestnut and Chairman of The Giving Tree Charity
