Autumn Walks That End at The Pub

The countryside feels at its best on an autumn walk - colourful trees, crisp leaves and cool air. From woodland paths and riverside trails to wide-open views across the coast, we’ve rounded up some of our favourite walks that finish at one of our pubs, so you can swap muddy boots for a pint, lunch or a well-earned Sunday roast.

Field View

In one of the few areas of East Anglia with rolling hills, this scenic walk has field views for miles; be sure to take some binoculars in case of birds of prey flying over-head. At nearly eight miles long, it is one of our longest circular walks, but comprises of three villages with historic churches, thatched cottages and white picket fencing, so it's great for those with an interest in architecture or period dramas!

Old Hunstanton Hike

Old Hunstanton has one of Norfolk’s best year-round dog-friendly beaches. With wide sands, shallow water and the backdrop of cliffs, there’s plenty of space to roam whatever the season, but it's especially nice to finish with a drink at The Ancient Mariner Inn, just a short walk over the dunes, and a spot of food by the fire.

This walking route has two options - a shorter version along the beach or an extended walk with a pit-stop at The Gin Trap Inn too.

Secret Saffron Walden Walking Map

The Eight Bells, Saffron Walden

Saffron Walden is a good choice for a autumn town walk. Wander through the market square, explore independent shops and dip into local museums before stopping at The Eight Bells. Our walking map helps you take in the best bits of town, but be sure to go over the beaten track if you want to discover more hidden gems.

Marshland Meander: Dunwich to Walberswick

The Ship, Dunwich

In light of the Dunwich Heath wildfire this summer, we have created a new walking map that incorporates the sea views, marshes and coastal forest to the north of our pub. This 7 mile route takes approximately two and a half hours and is ideal for wildlife enthusiasts hoping to catch a glimpse of wading birds or marsh harriers.

Riverside Ramble

The Crown, Stoke-by-Nayland

This 5.5-mile circular walk meanders along the River Box, through farmland and Dedham Vale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It’ll take you about two hours, mostly over riverbanks and countryside paths, with a little bit of quiet country road. Don’t miss the Church of St. Mary, a 10th-century gem. Good boots are a must for this Riverside Ramble.

Weybourne Wander

The Maltings, near Holt

This scenic circular walk loops through countryside, coast, and woodland. You'll join the Peddars Way and Norfolk Coast Path with spectacular views out to sea before the latter part of the walk takes you through Kelling Heath. Expect to see an array of birds, such as oyster catchers and, if you're lucky, barn owls at dusk. Rest your legs back in The Library or Bolding's Bar.

However you spend your walk, there’s nothing quite like having a pub waiting at the end. Settle in for a drink, tuck into something seasonal and make a little more of the day before heading home - or book to stay a little longer.
