There’s something special about stretching your legs on a spring day and rewarding yourself with a pint at the finish line. We’ve rounded up some of our country and coastal walks around the East of England - each with a pub at the heart of it - so lace up your boots and grab the dog lead to celebrate National Walking Month.
Wellington Boot Wander
Pub: The Carpenters Arms, Great Wilbraham
Tucked away in Cambridgeshire, The Wilbrahams offer miles of footpaths through open fields, ancient woodland, and over the village common. It’s perfect for a short ramble or for giving your dog a longer off-lead adventure on our Wellington Boot Wander. Fancy a change of pace? Cambridge is just a quick trip away for a city stroll.

Inn to Inn
From: The Westleton Crown to The Ship, Dunwich
This 5-mile adventure links two of our coastal pubs. Set off from either end and wander across wild heathland and along the Suffolk coast. The route takes in RSPB Minsmere and the ruins of Greyfriars priory. Plus, you get to stop off halfway for a refreshment. Pub walks at their finest!

The Riverside Ramble
Pub: The Crown, Stoke by Nayland
This 5.5-mile circular walk meanders along the River Box, through farmland and Dedham Vale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It’ll take you about two hours, mostly over riverbanks and countryside paths, with a little bit of quiet country road. Don’t miss the Church of St. Mary, a 10th-century gem. Good boots are a must for this Riverside Ramble.

The Three Churches Walk
Pub: The Packhorse Inn, Moulton (near Newmarket)
Follow the ancient Icknield Way on this historic 6-mile route, taking in three picturesque village churches and the tranquil River Kennet. It’s a blend of country lanes, woodland, and meadows. Afterwards, cosy up in The Packhorse’s refurbished bar with a bar snack or two.

Field View Wander
Pub: The Cricketers, Clavering
One of our longer loops at nearly 8 miles, this route is a treat for fans of rolling hills and countryside views that go on forever. You’ll pass through three villages dotted with thatched cottages and charming churches - perfect if you love a bit of period drama scenery. Bring your binoculars for the birdwatching!

The Lifeboat Inn or The Chequers Walk
Route: Peddars Way & Norfolk Coast Path, Thornham
A walk with sea views and a dose of history. Choose between the shorter 2.5-mile route or the more adventurous 7.5-mile stretch. Both take you past Thornham’s iconic old harbour building and along the Norfolk Coast Path, with fresh sea air and big skies (we can hope) all the way.
