7 Autumn Walks That End With A Roast
There’s something highly satisfying about a good ol' walk followed by a pub lunch. Fresh air, falling leaves, a bit of mud here and there, and then straight into the warmth for a roast and a pint. From coastal paths to market towns and countryside loops, these are some of our favourite walks from our front doors that end with roast potatoes and a Yorkshire pudding!
Peddars Way Walk
The Lifeboat Inn and The Chequers Inn, Thornham
This coastal route works brilliantly in autumn when the paths are quieter and the skies feel even bigger. You can opt for the shorter 2.5-mile loop or take on the full 7.5-mile stretch along the Norfolk Coast Path and expect marshland wildlife and plenty of photo opportunities before heading back for a well-earned roast.

Red Lion Ramble
Pub: The Red Lion, East Bergholt
Follow quiet lanes and riverside footpaths, and pass Flatford Mill and Willy Lott’s House - the very spots that inspired John Constable’s famous paintings. The route then winds along the River Stour, before returning to your starting point at the pub for a well-earned Sunday lunch.

Weeping Willow Wander
The Weeping Willow, Barrow
This gentle 1.5-mile circular walk is perfect before Sunday lunch. It follows quiet village roads and open fields, making it an easy option for families and dog walkers. If you’re staying in one of the lodges, it’s a great way to start the day before settling in for the afternoon.

'It's Your Round' Route
The Packhorse Inn, Moulton
Known locally as the 'three churches' walk, this round route takes approximately 2 and a half hours. Begin by following closely to the River Kennet as it stretches out towards Dalham before joining a short section of the historic Icknield Way. It's an undulating walk with chocolate box cottages and far stretching views - you can even spot Ely Cathedral in the distance on a clear day.

The Eight Bells, Saffron Walden
Saffron Walden is a good choice for an autumnal town walk. Wander through the market square, explore independent shops and dip into local museums before stopping at The Eight Bells. Our walking map helps you take in the best bits of town, but be sure to head off the beaten track if you want to discover more hidden gems.

Weybourne Wander
The Maltings, Weybourne
This coastal walk from The Maltings takes in Weybourne Station and the Muckleburgh Military Collection - set on a former WWII anti-aircraft training camp. It’s an easy way to combine fresh air with a bit of local history before visiting The Grain Store for a memorable lunch.
