7 Winter Walks That End with a Roast

There’s something highly satisfying about a proper winter walk followed by a pub lunch. Fresh air, (mostly) clear views, a bit of mud here and there, and then straight into the warmth for a roast and a pint. From coastal paths to market towns and countryside loops, these are some of our favourite walks from our front doors that end with fluffy roast potatoes and a Yorkshire pudding!

Peddars Way Walk

This coastal route works brilliantly in winter when the paths are quieter and the skies feel even bigger. You can opt for the shorter 2.5-mile loop or take on the full 7.5-mile stretch along the Norfolk Coast Path and expect marshland wildlife and plenty of photo opportunities before heading back for a well-earned roast.

Red Lion Ramble

Pub: The Red Lion, East Bergholt

One of our newest walking routes; follow quiet lanes and riverside footpaths, and pass Flatford Mill and Willy Lott’s House - the very spots that inspired John Constable’s famous paintings. The route then winds along the River Stour, before returning to your starting point at the pub for a well-earned Sunday lunch.

Wandering Through Wells Walking Map

The Globe Inn, Wells-next-the-Sea

Wells-next-the-Sea is ideal for an easier wander. Explore the independent shops along Staithe Street on route down to the quay, and if you're feeling like wandering further, grab our Wells to Holkham walking map. Our walking map highlights a few of our favourite spots, making it simple to turn a morning out into lunch at The Globe.

Weeping Willow Wander

This gentle 1.5-mile circular walk is perfect before Sunday lunch. It follows quiet village roads and open fields, making it an easy option for families and dog walkers. If you’re staying in one of the lodges, it’s a great way to start the day before settling in for the afternoon.

Wiveton Wander

The Wiveton Bell, near Blakeney

This 5-mile route takes you along quiet lanes and sections of the Norfolk Coast Path with wide views across Blakeney National Nature Reserve. Winter brings fewer crowds and peaceful stretches of coastline - plus, a chance to see the seals! Finish back at The Wiveton Bell for something hearty and warming.

Secret Saffron Walden Walking Map

The Eight Bells, Saffron Walden

Saffron Walden is a good choice for a winter town walk. Wander through the market square, explore independent shops and dip into local museums before stopping at The Eight Bells. Our walking map helps you take in the best bits of town, but be sure to go over the beaten track if you want to discover more hidden gems.

Weybourne Wander

The Maltings, Weybourne

This coastal walk from The Maltings takes in Weybourne Station and the Muckleburgh Military Collection - set on a former WWII anti-aircraft training camp. It’s an easy way to combine fresh air with a bit of local history.
