A WEEKEND IN WESTLETON

Guest blog post by Anna @suffolksisters

IN AND AROUND

In April I headed over to the Westleton Crown, a delightful pub in the idyllic village of Westleton, Suffolk. Think an immaculately kept tree-lined village green and pond, quaint church, bookshop, tearoom and duck crossing signs! Enroute to my stay, I stopped off in the nearby historic town of Framlingham to visit family, and of course the famous Framlingham castle. I couldn’t believe how buzzing this town has become; there was a real outdoor café culture with a lively market and an abundance of independent shops.

The following day I was spoilt for choice as to where to visit but I decided upon the RSPB Minsmere nature reserve, an absolute haven for bird watchers and nature enthusiasts alike, literally minutes down the road from Westleton. I then followed the road down to Dunwich beach for some invigorating sea air and stunning views from the gorse-filled clifftops.

THE BEDROOM AND DINING ROOM

Upon arrival at the Westleton Crown, I was greeted by a friendly member of staff who showed me to my room, which are all named after local birds. Each room includes its picture of the bird inside, which I thought was a lovely touch! The room was equipped with a fabulous roll top bath and shower, natural toiletries, complimentary magazines and a Nespresso machine, all of which really contributed to a comfortable stay. My room looked over the village, with the church bells adding to the ambience of this quintessential Suffolk village.

The dining room is based in the stunning atrium, flooded with natural light and with views over the beautifully maintained garden. The menu was thoughtfully curated with an emphasis on fresh, local ingredients, catering to all dietary requirements. With everything looking so tempting, it was difficult to decide but I was very happy with what was so elegantly presented to me.

Breakfast was, again, served in the atrium, with a delicious, cooked menu, along with a buffet of cereals, to really set you up for a day of adventures. Of course, I went for the full English, accompanied by coffee, juice and yoghurt with granola - a true breakfast of champions.

The Westleton Crown is perfectly placed for a weekend of adventures exploring some of the finest destinations Suffolk has to offer. With an immaculate room, comfortable bed, friendly and welcoming staff and fantastic food, it ticks all the boxes for a getaway, not forgetting your precious pooch who can join you on your trip!
